With showers in the forecast for Saturday, it may not be your typical Okanagan weekend on the weather front, but there are still lots of fun things to do!
My top three things to do this weekend, rain or shine:
- Celebrate Pride.
Okanagan Pride Festival week runs until Saturday August 15, and it is going to be a big day! Bring your rainbow jackets to the Pride Rally & March. Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran will be the Grand Marshal, and he will be leading the parade at 11am. After the march, the Festival at the Beach begins in City Park at 11:30am with musical performances, a play area for kids, food vendors, and a beverage garden. This all-ages event is free and runs until 4pm. The full Pride Festival schedule is here: http://okanaganpride.com/
- Go to the Opera.
For hundreds of years, operatic performances have been keeping audiences engaged with high drama, emotional plots and moving characters. On Friday August 14 and Saturday August 15, Opera Kelowna presents Le Nozza Di Figgaro – ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ at The Rotary Centre of the Arts. - Wine Tour.
With a bit of everything in the forecast this weekend, you can always drink wine inside when the showers arrive, and then head out on the patio when the sun returns. With over 30 wineries in the Kelowna, West Kelowna and Lake Country, you won’t run out of wine to taste! If you’re looking for a worry-free experience, my advice is to hire a guided tour operator to take care of the driving – so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the wonderful view of the vineyards. Have a safe and wonderful weekend.
