Annie at the Kelowna Actors Studio
“The sun’ll come out, tomorrow, so you gotta hang on till tomorrow, there’ll be sun…” Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? It makes me want to hum along; and in the Kelowna Actors Studio production on Annie (until December 17) the popular tunes are brought to life by a talented cast.

Victoria Miller and Rick Worral shine in Annie at the Kelowna Actors Studio.
The musical is a timeless classic that was launched into popular acclaim with the 1982 hit movie musical with Aileen Quinn, Albert Finney and Carol Burnett. There is also a 1999 Disney TV version with Kathy Bates, an upcoming Broadway revival, and a potential movie revival starring Willow Smith.
The production we saw at the Kelowna Actors Studio on opening night last week was a perfect example of why this musical has become so beloved with audiences of all ages. Simply put, it was irresistible. Annie is being played by Victoria Miller of Kelowna, a lively 10-year-old with an astonishly powerful voice. She is someone you’ll want to watch! Her stage presence is fantastic and she has a natural ability and charisma that is totally endearing.

Annie at Daddy Warbucks Mansion - Kelowna Actors Studio
New York ‘zillionaire’ Daddy Warbucks will be played by veteran actor Rick Worrall. He has played in many lead roles with Kelowna Actors Studio over the years, and his smooth and gentle voice is a great fit for the role of Daddy Warbucks.
The set is pretty ingenious, too! The theatre company manages to put the Warbucks mansion, White House, and Mrs. Hanigan’s orphanage - all on one stage with clever and quick set changes. For people with a passion for design and decor, this is a real treat! Plus, the costuming is great, with some beautiful vintage elements included. A feast for the eyes (not to mention the feast prepared by Chef Neil Schroeter for the dinner portion of the night).

You can get tickets for the show and dessert only, or for dinner before the show. Doing this is always a great deal, since it stretches out your evening and the food is so delicious. Chef Neil Schroeter owns Okanagan Street Food Café in the North End of Kelowna, and was the Chef for Sumac Ridge Winery before that. The Actors Studio have really surrounded themselves with talent on all sides – from the acting to the dining!
It’s a great date night, girls’ night, or just an occasion to get together with friends before the holidays start. There’s no question that Annie will warm your heart and leave you humming for quite some time after the show is done!
I suggest adding a “google+” button for the blog!
