We’ve reached that time of year when the winter seems to get the better of us, and we go in search of activities that bring us joy and distraction. To help out in your quest for fun diversions, the Cultural District in downtown Kelowna is chalk-a-block full of entertainment. Take the Rotary Centre for the Arts’ RCA Spotlight Series with a range of different musical acts. Or the Kelowna Actors Studio season, with Brighton Beach Memoirs now playing until Feb 27. Here’s more on what you can expect at the Actors Studio.

Brighton Beach Memoirs in on at the Kelowna Actors Studio until Feb 27.
The production on the stage right now through February 27 is Brighton Beach Memoirs, which is a heart-warming and emotional coming-of-age story of a 15 year old boy growing up in Brooklyn in 1937. The boy lives in a small flat with his parents and brother, and his aunt and 2 girl cousins. The play masterfully weaves together the relationships of the various characters, and keeps you laughing with its zingy one-liners one minute, and misty-eyed the next with the touching family relationships.
The boy dreams of being a writer or a baseball player, and through his interactions with family members we get a snapshot of a loving and troubled family, dealing with the realities of the Depression and a looming war.
