The Kelowna Actor’s Studio has just started its production of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, on until December 19. It’s a musical (Broadway) theatre set in the 1950s about finding love, lending a helping hand to a friend in need, and taking chances – a true heart-warming story that will leave you feeling very Christmassy, indeed! Not to mention all those hummable Christmas and Broadway tunes…

The Actors Studio is the Okanagan’s only licensed dinner theatre, which means that you can enjoy some amazing food, wine, and entertainment all in one venue. During yesterday’s opening night performance, we were impressed with the spread laid out for us: a full-on turkey and roast beef dinner, complete with mashed potatoes, stuffing, four kinds of salads and hot roasted vegetables. Yummy!

White Christmas is a musical by Irving Berlin that includes some really well known, toe-tapping tunes – like Blue Skies, How Deep is the Ocean and of course White Christmas – among many others. What is it about Broadway music that draws you right into the tune and becomes instantly hummable?!

Going to this show just has a way of putting you into the Christmas spirit in a really fun way. Meeting new people at our table, being treated to this top-notch performance – it was simply a festive evening. I should mention, too, that the cast is hugely talented and the characters all really well developed. I was impressed with how well rounded each cast member was to have incredible singing voices, a fully-developed character and great acting ability, and how adept they and the stage-hands were to switch sets so quickly and innocuously… it was just a seamless and tight production.

Not only was the show itself thoroughly entertaining, but the food was outstanding too, and the theatre’s staff and volunteers were also extremely well rehearsed as far as seating people; taking away our plates once we’d finished our meals; bringing out dessert immediately once intermission started – it was a remarkable evening.
