Curiosity Growing About Stuart Park

If you’ve wandered the waterfront of Kelowna lately, you’ll be pleased that the section in front of City Hall is now open, connecting Kerry Park to Waterfront Park and the marina. Construction is still on-going, of course, and you might be curious as to what it will all be like. Here’s the skinny.

Here's a drawing of what Stuart Park will look like once complete this June.
Set to open officially on June 9, construction on Stuart Park will be complete in the later spring. There’s a page dedicated to the progress of the park on the City of Kelowna website, which you can check out here. The park was named for Jim Stuart, former mayor of Kelowna, for his 31 years of service to the City. When it’s done, it will be a gorgeous addition to Kelowna’s already beautiful waterfront – somewhere you’ll definitely want to bring your visiting friends and relatives. I know I will!
It encompasses 300 metres of waterfront with a wide Promenade. Along the water-side of the walkway there will be a “riparian shoreline” – plants that are indigenous to the Kelowna shoreline, sort of like the Rotary Marshes area north of Tugboat Bay.

This statue of the Kelowna Bear will be exhibited at Stuart Park.
There will also be a plaza which will become a major feature of the park, serving for outdoor events in the summer and a skating rink in the winter. You’ll see a building on one side of the plaza – this is to house the zamboni in the wintertime. An elegant archway will lead onto this plaza from Water Street, and a commissioned statue of the Kelowna Bear will be displayed across from the plaza on a high point.
I hope this gives you a good idea of what the park will look like. See you on the Promenade in June!
