One of the surest signs that spring is well underway is the arrival of the Okanagan Spring Wine Festival. It’s how we Okanaganites (did I just make up a word?) celebrate bud-break in the vineyard, that magical time when the tiny green buds finally open up into fledgling leaves. I digress. Where’s that glass of wine? The Spring Wine Festival starts on April 30 and runs to  May 9 – it’s a 10 day festival with over 100 wine-related events happening throughout the valley.

The festival has events to suit all sorts of tastes and price-points, so you’ll want to check out the schedule of events to see the range that’s available.

A few neat events to keep in mind:

• April 30 – May 3 – Summerhill Comparison Taste Tests: Does aging wine in a Pyramid affect it’s flavor? Find out at the Pyramid comparison taste testings and tour! Special series available during wine festival only. Cost- just $10 ($5 refundable with purchase)
  
• April 30 – May 1, May 6-8: Cooking Classes at the Hotel Eldorado – Join Executive Chef Michael Lyon as he guides you through a one hour wine paired cooking lesson.  Come on your own or bring some friends. The menu changes daily so feel free to come more than once. Space is limited so register early.  Registration is availible by phone only. We look forward to seeing you there! Cost – $15
  
• May 3 – Cadbury’s Melt in Your Mouth Chocolate with Heavenly Wines: Take four of the most famous Cadbury brands – Dairy Milk, Fruit and Nut Dark, Burnt Almond Dark and Premium Dark – and pair these with wines from the Okanagan specifically chosen for their affordability to ensure that you may carry on with your quest to always have chocolate on hand when the wine is opened!. • May 6-8 – Live Music, Fine Food and Wine Pairings in the Heart of Kelowna’s Cultural District: The View Winery takes the stage at The Green Room Restaurant! A showcase of new releases from The View Winery paired with delectable dishes by Chef Nystrom.  Scintillate your senses with an artful evening of fine wine, food and song.
