Kalala Winery a Winner at Major Competition

Wow – this is great news! Kalala Organic Winery in West Kelowna has netted some really fantastic awards: one for their Chardonnay Icewine at the Chardonnay Du Monde competition in France (the Oscars of the wine industry); and one for their Riesling at the California New World International Wine Competition. Both these competitions are high profile and international in scope.

Here’s the article from Kelowna.com by Kathy Michaels reporting on this great news. In her story, Kathy points out that these awards are not only fantastic in and of themselves, but also because the winery is such a newcomer to the scene, and gives them vital confirmation of their skill in winemaking among their more established and well-known peers.

Karnail Sidhu has been involved with organic farming for quite some time. This winery will acquire it’s organic certification this year, which you may already know is a seriously complex process. They derive their name from Karnail’s hometown in India, a name that means “Miracle Place”. The town received its name from a legend about its beginnings, told to Karnail by his grandparents, and explained on the Kalala website:

“Farmers checking on their animals in the distant flat lands came across a wolf and a sheep sitting peacefully together, sharing the special place and the bounty it had to offer. From this wonder, the farmers decided to move the existing village to this new area with the wish of capturing that peaceful harmony. The new village was named Kalala and refers to this miracle in the pursuit of Harmony,” (from website). An intriguing story for sure!

Congratulations Karnail and your team for the prestigious awards you’ve won!
