Some perks of being at the BC Media Centre

The hours are long and the pace is frenetic, but there are some perks to being stationed here at the BC International Media Centre. I know I’m going to sound star-struck – and in truth, I guess that I am – but there are some seriously amazing people that breeze in and out of the BC Media Centre on a daily basis. I have an update below about some of the Canadian athletes we’ve seen through our doors, but first, I have to share this beautiful blossom picture taken on my way in to the BC Media Centre this morning.

A few days ago Elvis Stoico graced the rink at Robson Square, taking the time to chat and take photos with all of us standing around the rink. Medallists have been speaking at Press Conferences pretty much daily, which means that we volunteers get to witness their commentary in advance of the nightly news.

The Okanagan’s own Kristi Richards was in today for a press conference with the Okangan Economic Development Society. She has a poise and presence when she speaks that is really remarkable. Others at the press conference included Glenn Mandziuk of TOTA, Michael J. Ballingall of Big White and Silver Star, Hans-Peter Mayr from Sparkling Hill Resort, and David Barkwell from Vericorder Technologies based in Kelowna.

Today, Rick Hansen came to speak in a press conference put on by Coca Cola, and your truly even got to pose for a picture with him. That gentleman is seriously inspiring – and I’m not embarrased by how starstruck I am.

To top it off, the sunset this evening was spectacular. I’ll leave you with a picture I took about 5 minutes ago of the view from the balcony where I’m staying. A beautiful sunset over English Bay…

Peaceful end to a busy day...
