They do what with the apples?!

Everyone knows that at this time of the year, the weather can do just about anything. A few days ago a surprise frost had grape pickers snipping bunches, double-time. And that’s exactly what happened a few years ago at Kelowna Land & Orchard Co in East Kelowna – freak frosty weather froze their late harvest apples right on the tree. At first fearing they’d lost their crop, the innovative Bullock family decided to make like a vineyard and press the frozen fruit, making Iced Apple Cider. The Raven Ridge Cidery was born. This cousin to Icewine was an instant success, and since then, KLO has been creating some delicious and award-winning still ciders with 4 varieties of apples, and now even with pears.

It’s a great gift idea, and dynamite with cheese or drizzled on Ice Cream. But the catch is, the farm store closes for the season at the end of October (opening again at the beginning of May), so you have to get over there soon to stock up! There are a ton of other gift ideas at the store – local honeys, dressings, rubs, and crafts. For early Christmas shoppers, this is a great spot for stocking stuffers!

Tastings of the Iced Apple and Pear Ciders and sparkling fruit wines are free when you visit the store. You’ll find a Granny Smith still cider, Ambrosia, Braeburn, and Fuji (all Iced Ciders), as well as their new Pear Iced Cider (yum)!

Here is the contact information for KLO Orchard – including a map. Enjoy this tasty orchard visit!
