Terrace Mountain Fire Resources


If you or someone you know if planning a vacation in Kelowna and wondering if they should still come given the news reports about the Terrace Mountain Fire, here are some resources they can use in order to help them make the decision that is right for them.

Just the facts:

  • The Terrace Mountain Fire is burning on the west side of Okanagan Lake, near an area by the name of Fintry. It is 35 km to the north of Kelowna. From the city, the fire is not visible. There is some smoke in the air.
  • Currently there are people evacuated from their homes in the Fintry area or on evacuation alert. For an update on the neighbourhoods under evacuation alert or orders, see www.regionaldistrict.com/tmf.
  • For an update on the wildfire situation at Terrace Mountain or other BC wildfires, see www.bcwildfire.ca.
  • Currently there are no major road closures in the Kelowna area. For questions about road conditions visit www.drivebc.ca.
  • Currently air quality is rated at the level of 3 or “low health risk” by the Air Quality Index.  Air quality can change depending on wind direction and intensity and other factors. For an up-to-date assessment of air quality in the region visit www.airhealthbc.ca.
  • Please note that there is presently a ban on fire in area parks, campgrounds, and the back country as conditions are very dry.
  • Flights have not been affected by the Terrace Mountain Fire.

Tourism attractions in Kelowna such as beaches, wineries, golf courses, restaurants, and farms have not been affected by the Terrace Mountain fire. There is plenty to see and do in Kelowna for an exceptional vacation.
