Attractions in Kelowna – Unscathed and Open

We came out of last weekend with a situation that is very difficult for many people in the residential areas across the lake in West Kelowna. My thoughts are with them. In my role with Tourism Kelowna, we’ve been busy keeping people informed on latest updates on the situation. I’d like to use this blog to get information to you in the community at large that our tourism businesses are taking care of visitors and customers as we speak.

This is important: attractions in Kelowna are unscathed by the fires. Wineries are pouring. Golf courses are still booking tee times. Beaches are packed with sun worshipers. Resorts, hotels, motels, and B&BsĀ  still have availability.

There are always stories of prevailing human spirit and compassion. The sad thing is that these stories may not keep eyes glued to television sets. So we’ve decided to make this blog the forum for good news stories of compassion. If you have one, please send it to us at info@kelownasjuicytips.com and we’ll get it posted for you.

Positive stories are uplifting to the spirit. Share your thanks to someone who opened their doors to you, because it’ll buoy people. That’s the true effect of situations such as this: in strong communities people pull together and they support one another. The character of a destination shows itself in difficult times. Let’s get this positive energy going and send it out to the universe – our neighbours across the lake certainly need it.

I couldn’t agree more! I spoke about this very topic today on the show http://www.1039thejuice.com and want to ‘remind’ those not just visiting Kelowna, but that actually LIVE here that attractions in Kelowna ARE unscathed by the fires. We will still stay on guard. We will be compassionate. We will help when we can. But we also need to keep smiling for the tourists, hand them a surgical mask so as not to breath in the smoke, and remind them that the wineries are still pouring, golf courses are booking tee times. Beaches are packed with sun worshipers. And when relatives call asking how bad things are here, and if they should bother booking a room, tell them to snap out of it. The Resorts, hotels, motels, and B&Bs still have lots of availability!
