We All Scream For Ice Cream
Today on the show, Joonyer and I talked about great places to get ice cream or gelato in Kelowna. After all, we’re looking at temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s this weekend, sunshine, and lots of family-oriented events that people will be enjoying. All of these elements lend themselves well to an ice cream excursion! Here are my top picks for places to get great frozen treats this summer:
Carmelis Goat Cheese Artisan – Here’s a great treat for patient kids who let mom and dad winery tour along Lakeshore Dr. Carmelis Goat Cheese Artisan is about 5 minutes south of CedarCreek, and besides having a truly awe-inspiring selection of artisan cheeses, they also make super-flavourful goat milk gelatos. And psst: their healthy for you!
Okanagan Lavender Farm – Many people don’t think of lavender as a herb, but it is! And just to prove it, the Lavender Farm and Marble Slab Creamery have teamed up to create three unbelievable delicious flavours of ice cream: vanilla, chocolate, blueberry – all flavoured with lavender. Super refreshing and addictive!
Marble Slab Creamery – Located in Orchard Park Mall, Marble Slab Creamery makes all their ice creams and waffles cones on site. They have 40 flavours and can custom mix flavours for your personal favourite ice cream on their frozen marble slab. (How cool is that!) Here’s a bonus: they have a mobile ice cream trailer that roves around town especially during events, so keep your eye out for them!
Moo-Lix on Bernard – This is a classic Kelowna ice cream parlor at a bulls-eye location. It’s right across from the Sails Fountain on Bernard, so you can get your ice cream cone (waffle cones made on site), and wander down the waterfront walkway or City Park with it. You can choose from 40 flavours, so take your pick (no waffling on the decision!) and head out to enjoy the sunshine.
Staccato’s Bistro – Here’s an idea for anyone heading out to the Cultural District this weekend or to Waterfront Park for the Fat Cat Children’s Festival: scoop up your kids and head to Staccatos for some all-natural gelato. They’re located in the Rotary Centre for the Arts, which is a fun stop in its own right. Their gelatos and sorbets are made on site and are good quality Italian gelatos. Sorbets are perfect for anyone with lactose intolerance since they don’t contain dairy.
If you have a favourite ice cream spot that you’d like to share, please do so – we’d love to hear about it. In the meantime, find yourself a cone and don’t forget to take a picture of your tasty treat – you could submit it to our Flip For The Juice Contest for a chance to win a Flip Video Camcorder. Bon appetit!

Terrific blog! And thanks for mentioning Carmelis Goat Cheese Artisan and the Okanagan Lavender Farm; they quickly became two of my favourite places when I visited Kelowna a few years ago. Keep up the great work!
