Kelowna Festive in Red and White

Can you believe this? It’s already Canada Day! The summer is just flying by. Our remedy for Timefliesitis? Make the most of every day– and with so much happening tomorrow, Canada Day is a great place to start.

Festivals Kelowna has the whole day planned so that you can just enjoy. Check out the proceedings and events at Waterfront Park and Prospera Place at this great schedule of events. This will be the heart of Canada Day action in Kelowna, so come and be a part of it.

If you’re entertaining for Canada Day, pepper your party with national flavours. Like what? Well, Okanagan Grocery Artisan Breads (at the Guisachan Village Mall next to Codfathers) is a great place to start. It’s open Canada Day, too, so that’s handy. They feature all sorts of fantastic locally-made specialties from cheeses to dips and spreads. Best of all? Their fresh-from-the-oven artisan breads like this week’s special: Maple Whole Wheat Loaf. Baker Monika Walker describes this one as “sweet maple syrup and the slight nuttiness of the whole grains in a sandwich-style loaf…  a classic for Canada Day festivities.”

Monika’s tip for a great Canada Day appy? Pair their spiced organic hazelnuts (roasted-in-house — slightly sweet, both smoky and peppery) with sweet, plump dried Lapin cherries from Okanagan Harvest.  Add this cherry-nut combo with a nice spread of local cheeses, crackers, and wine jelly, and you have one killer appy. !

After Canada Day is passed, keep up your pact to squeeze every drop out of our unbeatable Kelowna summer. Starting on July 2 and running through to August 28, Parks Alive! is featuring free entertainment in various Kelowna parks. Check out their schedule of free concerts and entertainment and don’t forget your beach blanket.

Finally, on this weekend is the Kelowna Jazz & Blues Festival at Waterfront Park. There will be 15 performers over 22 hours (starting at 10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday), food vendors, and fun – all for $15 at the gate. Along with 13 top Okanagan jazz and blues professionals, you’ll get to hear Chicago blues veteran Studebaker John and his Hawks as well as Toronto bass legend Roberto Occhipinti and his quartet of Cuban jazz expatriates.

Lots happening for us all to enjoy… this is why we love, love, love Kelowna!
